Flatout dominates at NJMP enduro!
We brought five cars to New Jersey Motorsports Park for the Devil in the Dark, a 12-hour enduro that has become an east coast favorite – and we came this close to putting all five on the podium.
In the E4 class, Will Fox and James Fox drove our number 90 Miata to victory even though they ran most of the race in fourth gear. You read that correctly: They lost third and fifth a couple of hours in, drove the remainder of the race in one gear … and won. Joining them on the podium in second place were Whit Gregg, Amy Mills, and Leland Englebardt, whose number 17 Miata ran like a train all night.
Driving our number 89 rental car, the hotshoe duo of Eric Thompson and Sam Wilkinson did not win – but they were leading by a full 5 laps at the midway point when their Miata suffered a rare engine failure. Heartbreak for the guys who obviously had everybody covered.
James and Neal Walker took the E3 class with outstanding, consistent driving – that team never made a mistake! The father-son team of Steve and Max Tullman also made the podium with a third-place E3 result. It was an impressive run because they lost 10 laps, dropping to last place in class, due to a mechanical – talk about clawing your way back!
As you would expect, the crew were on their toes. Huge thanks to Nick Leverone, Jody Leverone, Adam Desrosiers, Yvette Tenorio, Evan Consolazio, Andrew Burke, Dave Goulet, Nicky Beans, Sarah Bowin, Jerry Rigoli, Rob Newton, Alex Negron, Peanut Negron, Doug Fisher, and Chris Vera!
Finally, here’s a little in-car from Amy Mills to show what the start of a massive enduro looks like – in the wet.
