Now rent an S2000 for STU, STL, T1!

Why not rent this sweet 2.0-liter S2000 for a track day, school, or race weekend?

Why not rent this sweet 2.0-liter S2000 for a track day, school, or race weekend?

Our customers have been clamoring for cars to race in SCCA’s STU and STL classes, and some of them even want to try something that’s not a Mazda (gasp!).

Hey, we’re listening: We’re now renting out a gorgeous, in-house-built Honda S2000 (with the 2.0-liter engine) that can run STU, STL, and even T1.

Is it fast? Hell yeah. His first time in the car, at Lime Rock, hotshoe client Eric Thompson won a bunch of races, finished second in all the rest, and flirted with track records all weekend.

Contact us to talk about renting this beast!

Leverone takes checkers at Pittsburgh Major

Leverone atop the podium at the Pittsburgh Double Major!

Leverone atop the podium at the Pittsburgh Double Major!

With the season in full swing, how about some race-weekend updates?

The weekend of April 28-May 1, Flatout President Nick Leverone and client Peter Doane hit an SCCA Double Major at Summit Point. Both drivers did well and had a ball at the venerable track.

Immediately afterward, we swung up to Watkins Glen for Joey G Track Days. Everybody was eager to sample the Glen’s new pavement, and there was no disappointment. Hotshoe Amy Mills was one of the fastest Spec Miatas on the new surface! Whit Gregg was quick as well. Old friend Stephen Pope rented a Miata. So did Corey Rueth and Nick Evancich (both gaining seat time for an MX-5 series race) as well as Abe Zimroth. Finally, it was great to see Jon Farbman back in his rotary-powered Miata!

May 5-7 found us at Palmer Motorsports Park for a Double Regional. Father-and-son team Tony and Kent Vaccaro rented; they’re notable because Kent is 14 years old! And he wasn’t the only youngster tearing it up; 15-year-old JT Coupal ran his brand-new Flatout build, Number 77—and finished on the podium. Doug Fisher raced has Number 15 Miata and had a great weekend! Tom Paolino was there in his own fresh build. Tom Haronian and Dave Kurhrawy rented. And in a way, we’ve saved the best for last: longtime client and fast racecar driver Eric Thompson absolutely dominated the STL class, walking away from the field for a pair of wins!

The next weekend, we headed west to Pittsburgh International Race Complex for another Double Major. Once again, Doane (running STL) and Leverone (SM) were the drivers—and Leverone won, taking his first Majors checker. Way to go, Prez!

Big thank-yous go out to Adam Desrosiers and Dave Goulet, who did a lot of crewing this month. And hey, we’re just gearing up: this weekend, we’re off to New Hampshire Motor Speedway with six cars … and treks to Mid-Ohio, NJMP, and other venues aren’t far behind!

Builds builds builds!

toyotaBWe’ve hit the heart of the racing season, so new-car builds are over until next winter, right?

Wrong! We’ve got a bunch of cool builds either in progress or just out of the shop. Here’s a quick rundown:

  • The car featured here is an incredible Toyota Celica All-Trac Turbo for hotshoe client Eric Thompson. Eric will run the car in SCCA’s STU and T1 classes. Can’t wait to see this AWD beast run, especially in the rain.
  • We just rolled out fresh Miatas for clients Bill Finsilver and JT Coupal (who immediately landed on the Podium at Thompson Speedway!).
  • We’re putting the finishing touches on a MazdaSpeed Turbo (aka a Porsche Cayman Killer) for Doug Fambrough, who will campaign the car at Monticello Motorsports Park.
  • Finally, we’ve got a build with your name on it: a sweet new Flatout Motorsports rental Miata!

See our Builds page for more info, or just contact us!

We’ll leave you with an engine-bay shot of that turbo Toyota …

Flatout dominates at NJMP enduro!

We brought five cars to New Jersey Motorsports Park for the Devil in the Dark, a 12-hour enduro that has become an east coast favorite – and we came this close to putting all five on the podium.

In the E4 class, Will Fox and James Fox drove our number 90 Miata to victory even though they ran most of the race in fourth gear. You read that correctly: They lost third and fifth a couple of hours in, drove the remainder of the race in one gear … and won. Joining them on the podium in second place were Whit Gregg, Amy Mills, and Leland Englebardt, whose number 17 Miata ran like a train all night.

Driving our number 89 rental car, the hotshoe duo of Eric Thompson and Sam Wilkinson did not win – but they were leading by a full 5 laps at the midway point when their Miata suffered a rare engine failure. Heartbreak for the guys who obviously had everybody covered.

James and Neal Walker took the E3 class with outstanding, consistent driving – that team never made a mistake! The father-son team of Steve and Max Tullman also made the podium with a third-place E3 result. It was an impressive run because they lost 10 laps, dropping to last place in class, due to a mechanical – talk about clawing your way back!

As you would expect, the crew were on their toes. Huge thanks to Nick Leverone, Jody Leverone, Adam Desrosiers, Yvette Tenorio, Evan Consolazio, Andrew Burke, Dave Goulet, Nicky Beans, Sarah Bowin, Jerry Rigoli, Rob Newton, Alex Negron, Peanut Negron, Doug Fisher, and Chris Vera!

Finally, here’s a little in-car from Amy Mills to show what the start of a massive enduro looks like – in the wet.

Great weekend at VIR!

What a fantastic weekend Team Flatout enjoyed March 7-8 at Virginia International Raceway! Clients Tim Estes, Jon Farbman, Amy Mills, Whitfield Gregg, Steve Tullman, Max Tullman, Jim  Walker, Greg Tewes, and Sam Wilkinson all made the trek south. Here are some highlights :

– Estes won everything he ran the whole weekend. That’s right, every … single … race. Wow!

– Company president Nick Leverone and Whit finished second in Sunday’s enduro.

– There was an all-Flatout podium following Sunday’s STL race: Farbman took the win, Nick finished second in Tim’s RX-7, and Whit took Show.

– Everybody was excited for the track time and practice, as VIR will host an SCCA Majors Race in April.

– Greg Tewes earned his Competition License and scored a Top Ten finish in Saturday’s enduro.

– Sam Wilkinson and Jim Walker finished seventh and eight  in that enduro.

– In Sunday’s SM race, Max and Whit each nabbed another Top Ten.

Big thanks to the crew who kept the show running: Andrew Burke, Evan Consolazio, Seamus Erskine, Jody Leverone, and Rob Newton. We couldn’t do it without them!

New employee, new cars, new series!

It’s been our busiest year ever, and the beat goes on.

Flatout clients Steve Tullman and Max Tullman have launched a full-bore Porsche campaign in IMSA’s GT3 Cup Challenge. Their first race, August 21-23 at Virginia International Raceway, was fantastic. Max finished third – a podium in his first pro bid! – while Steve put together an impressive qualifying run, sitting second on grid after wrecking early (the crew got his car buttoned up!).

That was a split weekend for Team Flatout; we supported Sam Giardella, Wendy Cappola, David Quinlan, Doug Fambrough, and new Arrive & Driver David Kuchrawy at the first-ever SCCA Regional held at Palmer [MA] Motorsports Park. On Sunday, Fambrough stole the spotlight, racing from last (due to a car swap) to first in SM!

August 14-16 found us at New Jersey Motorsports Park supporting Amy Mills, Neal Walker, and Kurt Mueller. Great racing all around!

August 7-9 was also a split weekend. Longtime hotshoe Eric Thompson and Greg Tewes ran at Pocono International Raceway. Meanwhile, a large contingent went south to Daytona, prepping for the upcoming SCCA Runoffs. Company president Nick Leverone raced, as did Mills, Neal Walker, Jim Walker, and the Tullmans. Look out, Runoffs: Team Flatout will be ready!

July 31-August 1, we were closer to home at New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s annual Racing Against Leukemia weekend. As is our custom, we offered track rides, raising $800 in the process. Tom Mariano, Flatout’s own Jody Leverone, Doug Fisher, and Fambrough all shone. Jody snared a pair of podiums in ITA, while Fisher nailed the third-fastest lap time in the competitive SM class.

July 17-19 we were at Watkins Glen, where Mark Anthony and Bob Varca joined Mariano and Fambrough for an outstanding weekend.

July 10-11, Connecticut’s Thompson Speedway Motorsports park was the venue. James McCann and the Tullmans raced hard and well, as did Hugh and Craig McHaffie.

We opened July with an SCCA Major at the Glen. Leverone, Mills, Whit Gregg, and Yiannis all had a ball.

Of course, none of this happens without phenomenal crew support. The Leverones, Jerry Rigoli, Adam Desrosiers, Yvette Tenorio, Andrew Burke, Seamus Erskine, Rob Newton, and Evan Consolazio all deserve a hand. Whether they’re at the track or pulling off miracles at the shop, we rely on them!

Finally, join us in welcoming David Goulet to the team! David has quickly made himself indispensable in the shop, and he looks forward to crewing at the track as well.
